Economic Indicator Stats And Your Investment Strategies

I was first looking to post on Producer Price Index (PPI) and how does it
effects on the investor’s decision making. But then i realized that i should first make clear what are Economic Indicators so instead of posting on PPI ,so i decided
first to take on the basic review at the Economic Indicators and then proceed one by
one on it.There are about 24 such Indicators which we will take one by one.

These indicators have wide and deep effect on world wide markets, the employment data of U.S will effect Canada,India and China markets as well as others. So it is clear that they do effect the markets. So you should be able to analyze them, where to find them, how to read them and what they can tell you about the health of the economy and your investments.

These indicators can be classified into three categories :

  1. Leading indicators : As the name indicates these move/change before the economy as a whole changes.Good for short term predictors of the economy.
  2. Lagging indicators : Usually change after the economy as a whole does. Typically the lag is a few quarters of a year.Example : Unemployment rate
  3. Coincident indicators : Changes at approximately the same time as the whole economy.Personal income, GDP, industrial production and retail sales are coincident indicators.

Some of the Indicators are :

Beige Book,Business Outlook Survey,Consumer Confidence Index (CCI),Consumer Credit Report,Consumer Price Index (CPI),Durable Goods Report
,Employee Cost Index (ECI), Employee Situation Report,Existing Home Sales,Factory Orders Report, Gross Domestic Product (GDP),Housing Starts
