Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders reported that the UK car market is expected to decline by 5% in 2011 to 1,930,000 units, as market conditions remain difficult.
During 2010 diesel penetration also rose to a record 46.1%, partly helped by a growth in the MPV and dual purpose (SUV) segments, which have a high diesel penetration, and the slowdown in car sales petrol message scrap premium.
Ford Fiesta was the best selling new car for the second consecutive year in 2010 and Ford was again the best-selling brand, while December was top notch and the Vauxhall Astra was the best selling model.
